Contrary to our usual dinner tradition, we made our way to a brunch at Annelies in Kreuzberg on a sunny Saturday in October. We recently had dinner at Bertie and are still raving about the banana pudding, so we were full of anticipation for Annelies, which is run by the same crew.
As you can’t make a reservation there, we met up as soon as the store opened at 10am and joined the queue. As we were there so early, it went quite quickly and we managed to get a nice seat in the minimalist-chic interior.
We were very hungry and the three of us shared an egg & cheese sandwich (usually with sausage, but you can leave it out like we did), a kohlrabi salad and the roasted pumpkin.
With the egg & cheese sandwich, we were particularly impressed by the spicy mayo, while the sesame pancake roll was a little sweet and had a great texture. The combination of flavors together with the American cheese & omelette was really delicious.

The kohlrabi salad blew us away visually with the mountain of grated cheese on top. The cheese was really tasty, the salad as a whole was refreshing, the herbs in it, e.g. lemon balm, were well balanced. The kohlrabi was cut into long strands of spaghetti – a very nice detail for us.

The roasted pumpkin had a beautiful autumnal color – just like the yellow tones of the falling leaves and its aesthetics alone were convincing. The combination of mandarins, pumpkin and peanuts was more than a match for the taste.

As the meal as a whole made us so happy, we shared the buttermilk pancakes with granola, maple berry syrup and crème fraiche for dessert. The pancakes were extremely fluffy and although we were already full, we ate them all. Only the extra butter was one ingredient too many for us.

Conclusion: all the products used were of very high quality and therefore contributed to a great taste experience. We were so happy and full that we had to take a walk through Kreuzberg afterwards, but we are already looking forward to going back for brunch soon.
