After we all got to know such wonderful Indian restaurants in London, we really wanted to go out for a good Indian dinner in Berlin. Challenge accepted we thought. Although there are a lot of Indian restaurants in Berlin, there are not so many that offer really good authentic Indian cuisine. And then we discovered Bahadur. Even though it meant a longer journey to Wilmersdorf for almost all of us, it was more than worth it.
After a very friendly welcome, we were soon sipping on delicious Mango Lassis, lemonades with lime and mint and Mango Nimbu Pani, a lemonade with lime, cane sugar, spices and mango nectar. (Honestly the last one was a little too aromatic for us.)
Almost all of us ate a vegetarian Thali platter – because why should we choose only one dish when we could try three?! On each platter we had the classic Palak Paneer (Indian paneer cheese, tomatoes and onions), Navratan Korma (mixed vegetables, paneer cheese, cashew cream sauce) and Dal Makhni (lentils, cumin, butter, ginger and garlic, cooked for at least 12 hours). As a side dish, we ate bhatoora. After the first few bites, we were so incredibly happy and ate until our stomachs hurt. A Thali plate is simply too much for one person we noticed. However, we were happy, because we were able to take the leftovers with us.
We all agree that we have never eaten better Indian food in Berlin.
