With the temperatures dropping, we were once again in the mood for a more rustic cuisine. Our hunger for heartiness took us to ‚Gasthaus Figl‘ in Kreuzberg, a traditional restaurant with a very nice terrace and a warm and cozy atmosphere. Sitting around wooden tables bedecked with red and white checkered tablecloths, we feasted on pizzas: ‚The Roman‘ with grilled artichokes, roasted peppers, capers, garlic, mozzarella, tomato sauce and ricotta, ‚The Special‘ with sage potato slices, diced bacon, red onions, leeks, mountain cheese, sour cream, arugula and chives, ‚The Peasant‘ with braised chard, sage potatoes, oven peppers, olives, tomato sauce, mozzarella, garlic and fresh rosemary. We topped all that off with fries with sage, rosemary and parmesan and a side salad.
After we had eaten everything, we could hardly move. We ventured, sated and happy, out into the Berlin night, basking in the joy of a shared meal with friends – our last together before Germany’s second coronavirus lockdown kicked in.
