Pretty hip, pretty tasty, pretty Berlin – the Caligari in Neukölln
To cut a long story short – it was an all-round successful evening for us. The premises are functional but still cozy, the dishes are reminiscent of grandma’s plates, the menu including the wine list is clearly laid out, the waitresses are super nice and the biggest bonus – apart from the really delicious food – you could stay as long as you wanted. It’s always annoying when you have to interrupt an evening that’s just getting going because the next guests appear and take your place.
But now to the food: from the current menu, which is changed regularly, we treated ourselves to two starters and one main course each. We also had white wine and rose, both very pleasant.

As we didn’t take any photos of the menu – shame on us – here is a brief description.
A light and fluffy burrata with tomatoes – creamy, tender and intensely flavorful. The starter with prawns on a delicious bean paste was ok – the prawns didn’t really taste of anything and were a little too oily – but still delicious.
On the other hand, the main courses we chose were a pure delight – the vegetarian lasagne – a feast for the palate. If lasagne is sometimes a bit heavy on the stomach, that wasn’t the case here at all. The chosen vegetables in the lasagne harmonized well, there was enough cheese on top – just great.

The pasta with duck ragout also left nothing to be desired. It was so al dente on point that you rarely experience it. The ragout was very finely balanced.
And another plus point: we were full – which is not always a guarantee!
We would love to come back to Caligari in hip Neukölln!
